Some Vintage Inspiration

Use our Dinner Plate Rose to get the look.

from absolutely beautiful things in Vogue June 1959

Making a Hat

Lovely to see the finished product as a stylist sees. Here is a hat I was working away on unsure of who or how it would be warn ....and wham o I get this back from a stylist who used the hat in some editorial. Love what she has done ! This is using a sage green vintage hood that had been hanging around and then a friend bought me this great silk ribbon on a trip to the States and suddenly it all came together.

Gardenia Headpiece

Thought I would show you a headpiece I made during the Spring Racing Carnival here in Melbourne - had almost forgotten (how can that happen?) that I had made this till I saw the photo's again lost in my huge photo file. An interesting look and very 'vintage' I like the bow at the back adds a lot to the design.

Confirmation

Confirmation that I was born in the wrong era some lovely bodices mostly from the 1950's.

Beaded embellishment................

Working on some beaded embellishments today. Some will end up as completed headpieces or in conjunction with other wearable pieces in the future or.... are just for fun! I have a love of this type of detail whether it's on a dress or a beaded motif or fabric I just love the effect. This is how I tend to work and people often ask me how my ideas come about and mostly it comes from days like today where I am just playing around with various fabrics and pieces of beading, making a pearl bow one minute and then a bridal piece for a customer the next. Some how the ideas finally formulate and designs come about.

Sun Hats for the shop Ivory Sisal

This is the latest Ivory Sun Hat I have made for the shop and how lucky was I - just had enough of this lovely vintage straw trim to put around the crown - with one bobble left over !

This type of trim was always made by hand and is just small strip straw rolled on it's edge and stitched into place, this type of straw is pretty hard to find these days and I have had this piece of trim for I don't know how long I came across it at the bottom of a box while looking for trims for a couple of child's hats I made for the final day at the racing - two matching little sisters - they had adorable matching white lace Collette Dinnigan dresses.
